Autumn driving safety reminders

As autumn sets in across France, Vinci Autoroutes teams are reminding drivers of good practices to adopt during this period of the year when the days are getting shorter and weather conditions can change rapidly. Drivers are urged to respect the safety corridor, which requires moving to the left when approaching a vehicle stopped on the right lane or on the emergency lane.

Essential equipment checks for autumn

Drivers are also advised to check the proper functioning of essential equipment for autumn driving, such as windshield wipers, headlights, the cleanliness of the windshield and exterior mirrors. For two-wheel motor vehicles, it is advisable to equip them with retroreflective accessories. In rainy weather, braking distances are doubled, so drivers should avoid abrupt braking, lift the foot briefly from the accelerator, and adjust speed accordingly.

Driving in fog and high-risk areas

In fog, it is necessary to turn on fog lights and remember to turn them off when visibility returns to normal. If visibility is reduced to 50 meters, the speed is limited to 50 km/h. High beams should not be used as they can create a "white wall" that hinders driving. Special attention is required in certain high-risk areas such as near marshes, lakes or rivers, forested areas, and valleys.
