Coffee recall due to contamination

A recall has been issued for a specific batch of coffee called perfetto moka caramello from the brand Bialetti. The coffee was sold by distributors Ponera and Maxicoffee and is identified by batch number 8006363076203 LC5 BD149T, with a minimum durability date of 29/05/2027.

Contamination with harmful toxin

The coffee was recalled because it was found to contain ochratoxin A, a type of mycotoxin that can be harmful to human health. Levels of this toxin were found to be higher than the limits allowed by food safety regulations.

Health risks of the toxin

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), ochratoxin A may cause damage to DNA and could be linked to kidney cancer. This makes it a serious health concern when present in food products.

Consumers advised to return product

Consumers who purchased the affected coffee are being advised not to consume it and to return it to the point of sale. If someone believes they have been poisoned, they should contact Poison Control Centers at eight French university hospitals.
