Kayla Thornton scored 18 points and Gabby Williams added 16 points as the Golden State Valkyries, entering their second season, became the fastest expansion team to reach the WNBA finals. They will face the Atlanta Dream in the finals after sweeping the reigning champions, the Las Vegas Aces, 3 games to 0 with an 87-77 overtime victory in Game 3 on Friday night. Las Vegas, the third seed, had won three of the last four championships. In the finals, the Valkyries, the second seed, will have home-court advantage and will host the Atlanta Dream, the fourth seed, starting October 17. The Dream had earlier defeated the New York Liberty in their own semifinal series. Gabby Williams contributed eight points in overtime, along with three assists and three steals. Kiah Stokes and Tiffany Hayes each scored 11 points, with Stokes also grabbing 10 rebounds. Janelle Sanchez had less than 10 minutes of playing time for three points, while Aminata Gueye grabbed three rebounds in seven minutes. A'ja Wilson, honored before the game for winning her fifth MVP title—a record—scored 21 points (6/19 from the field) for the Aces. She also grabbed 10 rebounds, joining DeWanna Bonner as the only players to have accumulated 1,300 points and 600 rebounds in the playoffs. Jackie Young added 18 points and Chelsea Gray 17. The Aces led by six points at the end of the game before the Valkyries tied it when Gabby Williams stole the ball from Wilson and Thornton finished with a fast break layup to make the score 69-69 with 1:50 left in the game. In the other Game 3 of the semifinal, the Atlanta Dream defeated the New York Liberty 85-83. Marine Fauthoux played nearly 32 minutes for nine points (1/5 from three-point range), three assists, and one rebound. Pauline Astier (8 minutes) and Marine Johannès (4 minutes) did not score.
