Flooding closes Corum cultural complex

The Corum cultural complex in Montpellier, France, has been closed after severe flooding caused by a Cévenol storm on September 30, 2026. The storm brought heavy rains that led to water infiltration inside the building, prompting local authorities to shut it down until repairs are completed.

Corum's history and facilities

The Corum was inaugurated in 1988 and designed by architect Claude Vasconi. It includes the Palais des congrès, exhibition spaces, and the Opéra Berlioz, which has a seating capacity of 2,000. The opera house has suffered significant damage and is unlikely to resume operations soon, according to the Metropolis of Montpellier.

Alternative events for Corum closure

To accommodate the closure, the Opéra Berlioz has moved several events. The opening concert of the season, originally set for October 9 at the Corum, has been relocated to the Zénith Sud. Other events, including the "Au cœur de l’Orchestre" sessions and a concert by Angélique Kidjo, have also been moved to different venues.

Cinemed film festival adjustments

The 48th edition of the Cinemed film festival, scheduled from October 16 to 24, has been partially moved to the Pathé Comédie. The venue will provide all of its screening rooms for the event, which is expected to attract 60,000 spectators, 200 guests, and 300 industry professionals.

Uncertain reopening date for Corum

The exact date for the Corum’s reopening is still unknown. The administrative team is conducting expert assessments to determine the extent of the damage and the time needed for repairs. Updates on event changes and venue adjustments are being posted on the Corum’s official website.

Upcoming events postponed

Several events originally planned for early November at the Corum have been postponed. These include a concert by Laurent Voulzy on November 5 and a performance by Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine on November 7, which is part of his farewell tour.
