A user who previously owned an Apple Watch Series 10 is upgrading to the newer Apple Watch Series 12, primarily to take advantage of enhanced health monitoring features and improved durability. The user, who had a heart attack 12 years ago, relies heavily on the Apple Watch to track vital signs, especially heart rate. The Series 12 introduces more accurate heart rate monitoring through new optical and electrical sensors, which have a larger surface area in contact with the skin and use more efficient LEDs. This allows the watch to measure heart rate every five seconds throughout the day, offering continuous tracking that can be especially valuable for someone with a history of heart issues. In addition to heart rate, the Series 12 also tracks heart rate variability (HRV) every five seconds. HRV is a measure of the variation in time between heartbeats and can provide insights into overall health and how well someone is recovering from stress. A new feature called “Readiness” uses data from activity, vital signs, and sleep to assign a score between 0 and 10, helping users determine how prepared they are for physical or mental exertion on a given day. The Apple Watch Series 12 also includes improved durability, particularly in its aluminum case version, which is reinforced with Ceramic Shield 2. This material is more resistant to damage than any previous connected watch glass and is 60% more durable than the Ion-X used in earlier aluminum models. In addition to hardware upgrades, the Series 12 features audio intelligence that combines artificial intelligence with the watch’s microphones to offer new capabilities like sound and music recognition, Live Rewind, and Siri Recap, which provides a summary of audio from the day. Battery life for the Series 12 is expected to last up to 24 hours, matching the Series 11 and improving upon the Series 10’s maximum of 18 hours. This increase in battery life, along with the health and durability improvements, makes the Series 12 a compelling upgrade for users who rely on their Apple Watch for both health monitoring and daily functionality.
