Sylvester Stallone, best known for his iconic roles in films like Rocky and Rambo, recently shared a lesser-known chapter of his early life during an interview with CBS correspondent Tracy Smith. The conversation, set to air this weekend on CBS Sunday Morning, revealed that Stallone once worked as a lion cage cleaner at New York City's Central Park Zoo. He described the job as physically demanding and unpleasant, saying he felt sympathy for the animals and for himself, as he ended up smelling like them after each shift. To save money, Stallone would often shower directly in his work clothes, as he couldn’t afford a laundromat at the time. Stallone moved to New York City in his early 20s with ambitions of becoming a writer and actor. His big break came in 1975 when he wrote the screenplay for Rocky, which went on to win three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The film launched his career and became a cultural touchstone. Stallone later co-wrote and starred in Rambo, another blockbuster that solidified his status as a Hollywood action star. However, after the success of these two major franchises, his career faced a significant downturn, marked by a series of films that underperformed at the box office. Despite this challenging period, which Stallone once described as "more than a drought. It was about eight years of spiderwebs on the phone," he has remained active in the entertainment industry. Stallone is currently working on Tulsa King, his hit Paramount+ series, which will return for its fourth season in October. He has also written a new memoir titled The Steps, set to be published next Tuesday. Stallone will join Tracy Smith in a live conversation on Monday, September 28, at 6 p.m., as part of CBS Sunday Morning at 92NY, a new series featuring in-depth discussions with prominent figures in the arts and beyond. The event will take place at 92NY, a cultural center in New York City, and will be streamed live online at www.92ny.org. The interview will later be available on CBSSundayMorning.com, YouTube, and Paramount+.
