Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI platform, is rolling out a major update that brings together several of its tools into a single, unified interface. This update merges the chat feature, Cowork (a collaborative workspace), and Artifacts (a tool for storing and organizing information) into one window. This change is intended to make the user experience more streamlined, allowing users to access multiple features without switching between different tabs or windows. The new interface automatically directs user requests to the appropriate section of the app, reducing confusion and improving efficiency.
One of the key additions in this update is Claude Design, a tool introduced in April for creating website and prototype designs. Now, it is fully integrated into the unified interface, making it easier for users to access and use alongside other features. Anthropic noted that users previously had difficulty deciding which tab to use for different tasks, and this new design aims to resolve that challenge by providing a more intuitive and cohesive experience.
In addition to the unified interface, Anthropic is launching new productivity tools, including Claude Docs and Slides. These tools allow users to create, edit, and share documents and presentations directly within conversations. Similar to Google Docs, users can generate documents from any chat, make changes, or edit manually. Once created, these documents can be shared with others for simultaneous editing, and collaborators can leave comments. Users also have the option to download presentations as PDFs or PowerPoint files, or edit documents in Google Docs or Microsoft Word if preferred.
The new features are being introduced first to Pro and Max users across web, desktop, and mobile platforms over the next few weeks, with access for Team and Free users following later. This update follows an improvement to Cowork’s memory layer, which helps Claude retain user context across different chats. Now, Claude can better understand what a task requires, making features like Cowork and Design available from any conversation. The unified interface and new tools aim to reduce the need for users to switch between different applications, helping to close the gap between Anthropic’s AI platform and popular productivity tools like those offered by Google.
