Humidifier helps with dry winter air

An electric radiator warms the air in a room without adding water. As the air warms, its relative humidity decreases, leading to dryness that can cause discomfort like thirst, a scratchy throat, or dry lips. A humidifier adds moisture back into the air to counteract these effects.

Dreo humidifier models on sale

Dreo's connected humidifier model with a 6-liter tank is currently listed on Amazon for 66.49 euros, down from 79.99 euros. A smaller model with a 4-liter tank is also on promotion, priced at 53.99 euros instead of 59.99 euros.

Design and function of the 6-liter model

The Dreo connected 6-liter humidifier, model HM524S, is an ultrasonic humidifier that measures 29 centimeters wide and 31.5 centimeters high, weighing 1.76 kilograms. It uses a small chamber that vibrates rapidly under water to create cold mist without heating the water.

Mist production and efficiency

The mist produced by the Dreo model has droplets of 5 microns in size and exits through a wide nozzle about ten centimeters long, rising to approximately one meter. Dreo claims a flow rate of 300 milliliters per hour, which is sufficient to cover a room of 23 to 46 square meters. The 6-liter tank can last about twenty hours at maximum flow.

User-friendly features

The humidifier’s tank is filled from the top, avoiding the need to turn it upside down over a sink. Dreo claims up to 60 hours of operation without refilling in night mode. The device also includes a night mode that turns off the lighting and reduces noise to as low as 28 decibels.

Control and automation

The Dreo humidifier includes an automatic mode that uses an integrated humidity sensor to adjust the flow rate based on the desired humidity level. A manual mode is also available, and an LED display shows the current humidity level. The device is controlled via the Dreo app, as well as through Alexa or Google Home.

Recommended humidity levels

ADEME recommends maintaining indoor humidity between 40% and 60%, according to the Qualitel association. Exceeding 70% humidity increases the risk of condensation and mold, so it is not necessary to set the humidifier to maximum in poorly ventilated rooms.

Value for money

At 66.49 euros, the Dreo humidifier offers a relatively autonomous device that can last several nights and is discreet enough for a bedroom. Its connectivity allows remote control and precise humidity settings, which can be useful for managing indoor air quality throughout the winter.

Limitations of the model

The Dreo model only produces cold mist, unlike other models from the brand that offer hot mist but at higher prices. An anti-lime scale cartridge, sold separately for 24.99 euros for a set of three, is needed to reduce mineral deposits from hard water and prevent white dust buildup. The device also includes a replacement indicator in the app to notify users when the cartridge needs to be replaced.
