A Catholic charity in France starts Fraternibus, a monthly event to combat isolation by offering coffee and conversation in Bessèges.
Catholic group launches new social initiative
A Catholic charitable organization known as the Secours catholique has launched a new initiative called Fraternibus in Bessèges, France. The program is designed to bring people together and help reduce feelings of loneliness in the community.Fraternibus offers casual social gatherings
The initiative involves setting up tables at the Carrefour parking lot on Place de la Révolution, where locals are invited to join for coffee or tea. This informal setting is meant to encourage interaction and create a sense of community among residents.Project aims to combat social isolation
According to Hubert de la Touche from the Gard delegation, the project provides a "material pause" for people, especially those who are alone and looking for companionship. The gatherings are open to everyone and take place every second Friday of the month, starting with an event on November 13, always on Place de la République.Fraternibus focuses on conversation, not direct aid
Unlike the Samu social, which offers direct assistance such as blankets, Fraternibus emphasizes fostering good humor and conversation. The initiative uses a vehicle that was previously used as a "delicacy wagon" for a food-related project, which will soon be repainted white.Organization seeks to expand the initiative
The Secours catholique is considering expanding Fraternibus to other communes and has already received requests from surrounding areas. Currently, five volunteers are involved in the project, and the organization is reaching out to interested municipalities to participate.
