Marine Tondelier, a candidate from the Green Party in the French presidential election, held her final campaign event on Thursday, September 17, in the town of Arcueil in the Val-de-Marne region. This event took place just seven days before the end of her pregnancy, marking a historic moment as she becomes the first French presidential candidate to campaign while pregnant. Tondelier is expected to give birth to her second child in the near future and used the opportunity to highlight her policy proposals focused on children, stating she wants to create "a country at the child's level." During the event, Tondelier expressed concern about how children are treated in public policy, arguing that they are often overlooked until they reach voting age at 18. She proposed several initiatives, including the establishment of centers for victims of sexual violence, modeled on the Belgian system. These centers would provide medical, psychological, and legal support all in one location. She also advocated for making all crimes against minors "non-prescribable," meaning they could not be dropped due to time limits, and for creating a "pedocriminal prevention file" to monitor online activities that could be harmful to minors. Tondelier also criticized the current system for child protection in France, known as the Child Protection Assistance (ASE), pointing out its inefficiencies. She proposed banning for-profit organizations from participating in child protection and suggested providing financial support to young people who have been part of the ASE system until they reach the age of 25. Other proposals included the right to paid vacations for all citizens, a National Assembly of children where young people could submit ideas through a lottery system, recognition of single-parent families, a ban on evicting families with children, and the creation of a new Ministry of Childhood responsible for education and youth, with its own dedicated budget. In the coming days, Tondelier will attend a meeting at the Elysée Palace focused on international conflicts and their effects. She will then participate in a video conference as part of an extraordinary federal council of her party, where strategies for the presidential campaign will be discussed.
