Firefighters help return escaped parrot

Firefighters in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region were called to Pau on October 18 to help an owner recover an escaped parrot. The bird, described as having green feathers and a red beak, had fled from its home and was first seen at a Leclerc supermarket.

Attempt to capture the bird fails

Firefighters from the Sdis 64 animal unit tried to catch the parrot using a net and a cage. However, the bird evaded capture by landing on a nearby balcony and then flying to a tree, making it difficult to reach.

Owner uses another bird to lure the escapee

The owner eventually brought a second exotic bird to the location in an attempt to attract the escaped parrot. This strategy worked, and the bird was successfully returned to its owner.

Similar incident reported in July

This was not the first time firefighters in the region have dealt with an escaped parrot. In July, a Gabonese gray parrot was found near the Roger-Tetin gym on the avenue de la Résistance in Billère.

Authorities confirmed the bird’s return

The July incident resulted in the bird being returned to its owner after the departmental directorate for population protection and the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) confirmed it was safe to do so.
