Budget session limitations

Eric Coquerel, president of the commission for the Left (LFI), noted that the budget session would likely not address the expenditure part, which could lead to the original text being sent back to the Senate without discussion on this section. This might happen due to time constraints or if the deputies had rejected the revenue part in the chamber.

Agriculture funding concerns

Vincent Trébuchet, the special rapporteur for the UDR group, expressed disappointment that the Ministry of Agriculture would not reveal the content of amendments needed to fund its agricultural recovery plan. This plan aims to address damage caused by drought and heatwaves, with the government previously pledging 1.3 billion euros in aid for the 2026 budget.

Amendments to send signals

Despite the lack of discussion on the expenditure part, deputies of the Finance committee adopted several amendments to send a message to the government and farmers. These amendments aimed to highlight the need for additional support, with the most significant being an LFI proposal to create a 500 million euro support program for struggling farms.

Additional support for farmers

Two other amendments added 50 million euros each to support funds for diversified vegetable growers and livestock farmers, specifically for the purchase of fodder. Fourteen amendments were submitted and largely adopted to revisit the cancellation of 100 million euros allocated to regions for managing European agricultural funds, a decision that had angered many farmers and regional authorities.

Increased funding for various areas

Budgets were also increased for several areas, including overseas agriculture (25 million euros), farm succession, equipment cooperatives, the Mediterranean plan (30 million), the agricultural advisory council (70 million), and territorial food projects (100 million euros).
