Tractors gather in Saint-Just

A dozen tractors from the FNSEA, a French farmers' organization, are parked outside a meeting hall in Saint-Just, Ille-et-Vilaine, as part of a protest. The event is part of a larger demonstration involving environmental activists and members of the Confédération paysanne, another agricultural group.

Protesters confront authorities

On the other side of a line of gendarmes, 130 demonstrators are gathered, with sounds of whistles and jeers audible. The protest is taking place in Saint-Just, a town known for its heathlands and megaliths, which were severely damaged by a fire last summer.

Local commission restricts pesticides

The local water commission of the Vilaine adopted a text on October 16 that limits the use of certain pesticides. This decision was made despite opposition from the state and the FNSEA, which represents farmers' interests in France.

New form of territorial democracy

This marks a first in France for these organizations, which are experimenting with a form of territorial democracy. The move reflects a growing trend of local decision-making on environmental and agricultural issues, often in defiance of national policies.
