Flooding hits Saint-Martin-de-Crau

Heavy rainfall caused significant flooding in Saint-Martin-de-Crau on Tuesday, affecting many homes and the Chapelette camping, which was submerged under water.

Emergency services activated

In response, the municipality activated its communal safety plan at 5:20 a.m., with emergency services heavily mobilized to address the crisis.

Numerous emergency interventions

According to the town hall's latest situation report, more than fifty emergency interventions had been carried out by firefighters, gendarmes, municipal police, and city services. The objective was to ensure the safety of residents and to pump water from the most affected areas.

Roads closed and traffic disrupted

Access to the A54 motorway was closed, and traffic was severely disrupted. Several departmental roads were impassable in the morning, including the D24, D27, D1453, D83A, and D113.

Detours and redirected traffic

The overflow from the Chapelette also caused the closure of many roads, including access to the A54 motorway in both directions. As a result, heavy goods vehicles and motorists were redirected to the city center due to detours set up by state and city services.

Residents warned not to travel

The municipality indicated that all entry and exit routes from Saint-Martin-de-Crau remained impassable and asked residents not to take any risks and to avoid any travel.

Electricity restored to many homes

Electricity was restored to more than 10,000 households by Enedis, according to the municipality, helping to stabilize the situation for some residents.

Accommodation centers set up

To help affected residents, the municipal council chamber was transformed into an accommodation center as early as 6 a.m. The municipality then announced the implementation of other housing solutions, including at the CCAS canteen.

Evacuated residents accommodated

Affected and evacuated residents were accommodated at the multi-sports complex, located in the artisan area of Salat, at 20 avenue de Galilée, behind the Super U, with fifty people being accommodated.

Public facilities closed

The municipality also decided to close several public facilities until further notice, including the two nurseries, the youth center, the leisure center, the youth space, and sports facilities.

Damage assessment ongoing

For now, the final damage assessment remains to be established, with officials continuing to monitor the situation and provide updates to the public.
