A cruise line is offering an unusual winter adventure: skiing in Antarctica. AE Expeditions, a specialist in polar travel, is allowing experienced skiers and snowboarders to explore the icy continent during its Antarctic sailings, starting in November. This is a rare opportunity for travelers to experience skiing in one of the most remote and untouched places on Earth, far from the traditional ski resorts of Europe like Lech and Courchevel. Passengers on the expedition can go skiing up to twice a day during landings on the continent, with the possibility of six or more outings during a single voyage. The skiing will take place on remote, snow-covered peaks featuring long open slopes and alpine bowls. Alongside the skiing, the cruise itself will offer spectacular views of pristine bays filled with floating icebergs, penguin colonies, and potentially whales. Previous trips have included descents from Mount Tennant on Ronge Island and Mount Hoegh to Andvord Bay, with drops of up to 800 meters. The ski and snowboard tours are designed for advanced participants with off-piste experience and a high level of fitness. Qualified mountain guides will be on hand to teach essential skills such as using ice axes and ropes, and navigating avalanche-prone areas. The cost of the ski tour is an additional £1,022 per person. The 12-night "Across the Antarctic Circle" cruise, which includes a one-night pre-sailing stay, starts at £14,898. The cruise departs from Ushuaia, Argentina, aboard the Sylvia Earle and Greg Mortimer ships between November and February. The fare includes house wine and beer during dinner and all shore excursions, but passengers must bring their own ski equipment. This unique experience offers a chance to combine adventure with the awe-inspiring beauty of Antarctica, far from the crowded slopes of the Alps.
