Fifty years after the death of French actor Jean Gabin, a new book titled Gabin de A à Z delves into every aspect of his life and career, combining his legendary film roles with more personal and anecdotal details. Published by Guy Trédaniel, the book is authored by Mathias Moncorgé, Gabin’s son, and Patrick Glâtre, a film specialist and author of several books on the subject. The work uses Moncorgé’s personal insights to explore Gabin’s private life, aiming to capture a tone that reflects Gabin’s own style. It includes entries that cover major moments in his career as well as lesser-known aspects of his life. Mathias Moncorgé, who chose a path away from the film industry, has dedicated himself to organizing horse races at the Jean Gabin Hippodrome in Moulins-la-Marche. Patrick Glâtre has also designed a major retrospective on Jean Gabin, held at the Musée des Années Trente in Boulogne-Billancourt in 2022, and oversaw the scientific and cultural preparation for the reopening of the Jean Gabin Museum in Mériel in 2025. These projects highlight Glâtre’s deep engagement with Gabin’s legacy and its preservation. The book, scheduled for release on October 1, 2026, contains 256 pages and is priced at 21.90 euros. It aims to provide both a comprehensive overview and a more personal look at one of France’s most iconic film stars. The collaboration between Moncorgé and Glâtre brings together familial insight and scholarly expertise, offering readers a multifaceted portrait of Gabin’s influence on French cinema and culture. This publication comes at a time when interest in Gabin’s work remains strong, with his films continuing to be celebrated for their authenticity and cultural impact. The book not only serves as a tribute to Gabin’s legacy but also as a resource for fans and scholars alike, ensuring that his contributions to French cinema remain accessible and relevant.
