Lana disappears in 2018

In 2018, Lana, a cat, disappeared one day in Montroy, Charente-Maritime, and never returned. Her owner tried everything: witness appeals, posters stuck in the streets. Without results.

Years pass without news

The years passed, without news. During all this time, however, the cat had not left the village. An elderly man from Montroy had adopted her, without knowing that an owner was looking for her, reports ici La Rochelle.

Nursing home changes the story

A departure to a nursing home changed everything. The story could have ended there. But when this man went to live in a nursing home, Lana found herself without a home. She was entrusted to a foster family, and the Châtelaillon shelter (ASPAC) then questioned her past.

Identification leads to discovery

Her identification tattoo was partially faded, and nothing indicated where she came from. After some research, the volunteers eventually found her original home. A reunion after eight years. At the beginning of October, Lana's owner went to see her at the foster family's home.

Emotional reunion and routine

"I recognized her immediately," she told ici La Rochelle. The cat's reaction was appropriate: she who had always refused the stuffed toys offered to her rushed to the one she had before disappearing. Since then, Lana has resumed her routine with her owner.

Importance of identification

A fading tattoo: a useful reminder. Lana's story reminds of the importance of identification. In France, it is mandatory for cats born after 2012, by microchip or tattoo, and allows contacting the owner if the animal is found, recalls service-public.fr. A tattoo can however fade over time, like Lana's: a cat already tattooed can also receive a microchip, which secures its identification.
