Genki Ono, a manga artist, gained early recognition with an honorable mention at the JUMP Treasure Newcomer Manga Award in 2011. The story that earned her this distinction followed an ordinary young girl who meets a boy who feels out of place in his class. Their meeting drives the narrative, and the plot also included a martial arts element, as both characters shared a passion for specific techniques, which helped them bond. Looking back, Ono noted that even in this early work, there were hints of romantic comedy. A major turning point in Ono's career came when she decided to create Hima-Ten!, a true romantic comedy. Her first series, Full Drive, was a sports manga centered on table tennis. Ono explained that the idea for a sports manga with dynamic action scenes came from discussions with her publisher, and table tennis was chosen because it was underrepresented in manga at the time. She was also personally interested in the sport at the time. While Ono said there was no specific work that directly inspired Hima-Ten!, she mentioned that Nisekoi might have had some influence. She also cited watching many Korean romantic dramas on Netflix and films such as Titanic as influences on her storytelling. Between Full Drive and Hima-Ten!, Ono created several one-shot stories, which she said helped her learn how to craft stories with unfamiliar characters and create compelling scenes that would draw readers in. Romantic comedy is a well-defined genre, and Ono aimed to bring something fresh to it with Hima-Ten!. She highlighted the unique aspect of the protagonist being a housekeeper, which created a contrast between the character's public image and private life. The idea of this opposition between a perfect influencer and a chaotic daily life came from Ono's desire to highlight this contrast in the manga. She chose to make the protagonist a housekeeper to emphasize this theme, which is central to the series. Ono believes that one of the main attractions of romantic comedy is its heroines, and it's important to create cute characters that readers can connect with. She noted that Hima-Ten! resembles her the most, especially as the series progresses. If she had to summarize Hima-Ten! in one idea, she would describe it as a clumsy love story, as all the characters are portrayed as awkward and endearing.
