A space-themed Pokémon event called the Pokémon Space Trail will be held at the Science Museum in South Kensington, London, from October 2 to January 3. This collaboration between The Pokémon Company and the European Space Agency (ESA) will feature large-scale installations that highlight popular Pokémon characters and their links to space science. Admission to the event is included with the museum’s general ticket, but visitors must book in advance, as the museum’s website warns that advance booking is essential for both the event and its shop. This is not the first time the Science Museum has partnered with other institutions for special events. Earlier this year, it worked with the Natural History Museum to open a temporary pop-up store. For the Pokémon Space Trail, the museum will sell an exclusive, limited-edition Pikachu plush dressed as an astronaut. To prevent scalping, there will be purchase limits on the toy. The museum has also introduced Astronights, where families can stay overnight and explore the Space Trail after dark. These events will cost at least £82 per person and are scheduled for November 14, November 28, and December 5. Additionally, an adult-only version of the Space Trail will be part of the museum’s Lates events, offering unique activities for visitors after regular hours. Pokémon Go players will also have a chance to participate in special in-game events starting October 4. During these raids, players may encounter a Pikachu wearing an astronaut costume, possibly as a rare "shiny" variant. Similar Pokémon Space Trail events are also planned at other science museums in Europe, such as the Cité de l’espace in France and the Deutsches Museum in Germany. Libby Jackson, head of space at the Science Museum, explained that the collaboration with ESA and The Pokémon Company International is designed to create an engaging experience for people of all ages. The goal is to help visitors discover surprising connections between the Pokémon universe and real-world space science, making learning about space more accessible and fun.
