Users report sudden battery drain

Users of Google Pixel Watches are experiencing sudden and significant battery drain issues, with some reporting rapid depletion even when the devices are idle.

Online discussions grow

On Reddit, discussion threads about the problem have grown, with Android Authority compiling reports on Wednesday, October 28. A Pixel Watch 2 owner mentioned experiencing only 12 hours of battery life on a single charge, compared to 48 hours previously, with the always-on display feature disabled.

Battery loss even when idle

Other users reported losing up to 20 percent of battery life in four hours, even when the watch was not in use. Several generations of connected watches appear to be affected, according to PhoneArena, which noted accounts ranging from the Pixel Watch 2 to the recently released Pixel Watch 5, with the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 4 also among the models affected.

Some users unaffected

However, many users claim they do not experience any battery life issues. Some users suspect that battery degradation could be to blame for the Pixel Watch 2, released in October 2023. However, the same problem appeared overnight on recent models, suggesting a software-related issue.

Possible causes identified

Several users suspect an application or background service that continues to consume energy without stopping. 9to5Google presented two possible causes: the September 2026 update, which added Gemini Personalization, allowing the assistant to draw on previous conversations, Gmail, or Calendar to personalize responses, and the recent Google Health update, which includes automatic activity tracking. Neither of these is confirmed.

No official response yet

Google has not yet acknowledged the problem or announced any fixes. Some users have regained part of their battery life by resetting their watch to factory settings, though this operation deletes all content on the watch, requiring users to ensure their health data is properly synchronized with their phone.
