CEO Resignation Sparks Uncertainty

LiveWire is facing a period of uncertainty after its CEO, Karim Donnez, resigned on October 21. Donnez had previously led the electric motorcycle brand linked to Harley-Davidson but stepped down amid ongoing financial challenges for the company.

Strategic Review Underway

A special committee has been formed to explore strategic options for LiveWire, including new financing, a potential sale, or a broader restructuring. Roy Gallagher, a restructuring expert from Ankura Consulting Group, has been appointed Chief Restructuring Officer to lead these efforts.

Harley-Davidson Limits Involvement

Harley-Davidson still owns nearly 90% of LiveWire but has stated it will not invest further in the company. For the third quarter of 2026, LiveWire sold 241 electric motorcycles, but the quarter ended with a net loss of $18.6 million and an operating loss of $17 million for its electric motorcycle business.

Product Strategy Shifts Focus

LiveWire has revised its product strategy, moving from high-end electric motorcycles to mid-range models. The company is now focusing on the new LiveWire S4 Honcho range and off-road electric motorcycles acquired from DUST Moto, which it recently purchased.

Future Depends on Funding and Execution

LiveWire now faces the challenge of convincing stakeholders that it can fund its development, support its customers, and successfully launch its upcoming models. The future of the brand remains uncertain, with no immediate signs of production halts or service disruptions for owners.
