Lenovo has unveiled a new concept device at IFA 2026 called the ThinkBook Project Swan, a business-oriented laptop with a unique, rollable display. Unlike traditional laptops, the Swan starts as a standard 14-inch device but features a thick lid that houses a flexible OLED screen. When needed, the screen unrolls horizontally to expand the display to 17 inches, maintaining a 16:9 aspect ratio commonly used in laptops and televisions. This design allows users to increase their screen space without carrying a larger device, making it potentially useful for tasks that require more visual real estate, such as multitasking or media editing. The ThinkBook Project Swan is a more restrained version of Lenovo’s earlier rollable concepts, particularly compared to the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, which expanded vertically rather than horizontally. This new horizontal approach may offer a more natural extension of the screen, aligning with traditional laptop usage patterns. The thick lid, while unconventional, is necessary to house the flexible screen and maintain structural integrity when the display is extended. Lenovo has been exploring rollable technology for several years, having displayed multiple prototypes in the past. Last year, the company launched its first commercially available rollable laptop, which received positive feedback from users and critics alike. The ThinkBook Project Swan appears to be another step in the company’s ongoing innovation in laptop design, aiming to blend portability with increased functionality. While the ThinkBook Project Swan is currently a concept device and not yet available for purchase, it highlights Lenovo’s continued interest in pushing the boundaries of laptop design. If the technology proves reliable and practical, it could influence future laptop models, offering users a new way to interact with their computing devices.
