Free unveils new fiber-based Freebox offers in 2026, including the high-speed Freebox Ultra with Wi-Fi 7 and TV services, while prices rise after the first year.
Free expands fiber-based Freebox options
In October 2026, Free launched five new fiber-based Freebox options without long-term contracts, including the Freebox Pop S, Freebox Révolution Light, Freebox Pop, Freebox Ultra Essentiel, and Freebox Ultra. A 5G-based box was also introduced without commitment.Pricing increases after one year
All these new Freebox offers, except the Freebox Pop S, see a price increase of 5 to 10 euros after the first year. The Freebox Ultra and Ultra Essentiel are the most expensive, costing 49.99 and 39.99 euros per month for the first year, respectively.Freebox Ultra features high-speed internet and TV services
The Freebox Ultra offers up to 8 Gb/s symmetric speed through 10G-EPON fiber and includes Wi-Fi 7. It also provides TV services with over 340 channels. The Freebox Ultra Essentiel uses the same hardware but lacks streaming video on demand (SVoD) services and is priced lower.Freebox Pop and Pop S offer fiber and Wi-Fi 7
The Freebox Pop provides fiber internet up to 5 Gb/s shared and includes Wi-Fi 7 bi-band along with a TV decoder. The Freebox Pop S, launched in 2025, offers the same internet speeds as the Freebox Pop but without the TV decoder and at a lower price.Freebox Révolution Light is an older model
The Freebox Révolution Light, introduced in 2010, offers 1 Gb/s downstream and 900 Mb/s upstream with Wi-Fi 5. It also includes a Blu-ray player, making it a more basic option compared to newer models.Free 5G box uses mobile network for high-speed internet
The Free 5G box, launched in 2024, uses the mobile network to deliver up to 1.5 Gb/s downstream with Wi-Fi 7. It is a mobile-based alternative to fiber internet, offering high-speed connectivity without a fixed-line connection.Wi-Fi 7 certification and network compatibility
The Freebox Ultra’s Wi-Fi 7 was not certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance at launch but was updated in March 2025 to include Multi-Link Operation (MLO). Free’s fiber network is fully compatible with 10G-EPON, but data on XGS-PON compatibility is not available.Free ranks third in internet performance rankings
According to the nPerf 2025 barometer, Free ranks third in internet performance behind Bouygues Telecom and Orange. This indicates that while Free offers competitive speeds, it still lags slightly behind its main competitors.Subscribers get benefits on mobile plans
Freebox subscribers receive discounts on Free Mobile plans, including reduced rates for certain data plans. This bundling strategy aims to encourage customers to use multiple services from the same provider.Future TV decoder announced for 2027
Free’s general director, Nicolas Thomas, announced a new TV decoder for "early 2027" but has not yet provided specific details about its features or release timeline.
