EDF introduces new off-peak hours

Starting November 4, EDF will implement new off-peak hours for 9.3 million households across France. This update is part of a broader initiative launched in November 2025 by the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE) to modernize electricity pricing and better manage energy demand.

Reform enters final phase

The reform is now entering its second and final phase, following an initial rollout that affected 1.7 million households earlier this year. The changes will continue until November 2027, during which time nearly 9.3 million subscribers will experience adjustments to their electricity tariff periods.

New pricing structure introduced

Under EDF's Blue Tariff, electricity during off-peak hours costs 0.1589 € TTC per kilowatt-hour, compared to 0.2142 € TTC during peak hours. This represents a 26% cost reduction for consumers using electricity during off-peak times.

Seasonal off-peak hours established

A key change involves the introduction of seasonal off-peak hours, managed by Enedis based on local conditions. All households will keep at least five consecutive off-peak hours at night, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., which is ideal for tasks like charging electric vehicles or running large appliances.

Afternoon off-peak hours added in summer

In the summer months, from April to October, the remaining two to three off-peak hours will shift to the afternoon, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. This helps absorb the peak of solar energy production during the day. In winter, some households may retain all their off-peak hours at night.

How to check if your hours are changing

EDF advises customers to check their accounts to determine if their off-peak hours will be affected. If their current off-peak hours include a time slot between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. or between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., they will see changes. Customers will be notified by their supplier at least a month in advance.

Implementation timeline and new subscribers

The changes will take place between November 4, 2026, and November 30, 2027, giving customers time to prepare. New customers who have been subscribed since October 6, 2026, already have contracts that include these updated seasonal time slots.
