Office 2021 for Mac ends support

Microsoft's Office 2021 for Mac will stop receiving security updates on October 13, 2026, as per the company's official schedule. This means the software will no longer be protected against new security threats after that date.

Alternatives for updated office software

Godeal24, a software reseller, recommends two options for users needing updated office software. These include an Office 365 account for 35.99 euros per year, valid on five devices, and Office 2024 Professional Plus for 22.99 euros for users who use both Windows and macOS.

Office 2021 Home & Business for Mac reaching end of life

Office 2021 Home & Business for Mac, which was long considered the best perpetual license for Mac users, is nearing the end of its life cycle. Its price has increased from 49.99 euros this summer to around 89 euros.

Cost vs. support for Office 2021

Paying almost twice as much for software that will no longer be maintained makes the purchase of Office 2021 difficult to justify. Godeal24 therefore focuses its Office for Mac offers on more modern options.

Office 365: A flexible subscription

Office 365 is a subscription model that allows use on up to five devices, including Macs, PCs, iPads, and smartphones. This option avoids the need for a license tied to a single platform and includes regular updates to the software.

Office 365 updates and compatibility

The Office 365 subscription includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, which receive regular updates. These updates ensure the software remains compatible with the latest macOS versions, without a set expiration date.

Office 2024 Professional Plus for Windows users

For Mac users who also use Windows, Office 2024 Professional Plus is a more economical option at 22.99 euros. It is a one-time purchase that includes several applications but is only compatible with Windows.

Office 2024 support and limitations

Office 2024 Professional Plus benefits from Microsoft support until October 9, 2029. However, it does not install directly on macOS and requires a Windows environment to function.

Choosing the right option

The choice between Office 365 and Office 2024 Professional Plus depends on the user's needs. Office 365 is ideal for those using multiple devices, while Office 2024 is suitable for users who also use Windows.
