Minister supports Duralex acquisition

The Minister of Industry expressed strong confidence in the acquisition of Duralex, a historic French glassworks company, which is valued at 16 million euros. The project was approved by the courts on October 14, and the deputy minister confirmed this on October 16.

Acquirer's background and involvement

Cédric Meston, the head of the holding company "Tomé," is leading the acquisition. He is also known for co-founding the startup HappyVore and acquiring Tupperware France in 2025. Billionaire Xavier Niel, through his holding company NJJ Capital, is also involved in the project.

Visit to the glassworks site

The Minister of Industry visited the glassworks site in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, near Orléans, and emphasized the government's commitment to the acquisition. The company will continue operations after being placed under judicial recovery in June, preserving 155 of its 220 jobs.

Financing and government support

A 16 million euro financing plan was presented to revive Duralex, with 6 million euros coming from public funds. These include loans from the Centre-Val de Loire region and Orléans Métropole, as well as state funding. The government has also pledged to monitor the project closely.

Commitment to jobs and future plans

The acquirer has committed to no layoffs in the next two years, a key condition for the government. For the 64 employees not retained, the state and local authorities have promised support, especially in training. Cédric Meston plans to make Duralex "the most ecological glass in the world" and restructure its production and product lines.

New leadership and sustainability goals

Silham El Kasmi, who spent 23 years at Saint-Gobain and Saur, has been appointed as the new general manager. The acquirer also aims to decarbonize the site, with an electric kiln expected by 2029. Energy consumption currently accounts for nearly 20% of Duralex's revenue.
