Students block university in Toulouse

Students from ISAE-Supaero in Toulouse blocked their university on October 19 to support high school students in a broader protest against educational inequalities. This marked the first such action at the institution in at least 15 years.

Protest aims to highlight educational disparities

The students are protesting against a lack of resources in education and social inequalities in access to top schools. They argue that success in education is not solely based on individual merit but is also influenced by social background.

Protest organized through student assembly

The blockage was decided during a general assembly attended by 180 students, according to the Student Mobilization Committee. After discussions with the school’s administration, including director Marie-Hélène Baroux, the action was approved by the university’s management.

Peaceful demonstration with student involvement

During the day, students distributed leaflets to explain their demands, and the campus band performed at the event. The gathering was described as peaceful by organizers, and a filtering barrier was set up in front of the university entrance.

Report shows social bias in top schools

A 2021 report by the Institute of Public Policies found that 64% of students at top schools come from highly favored social categories. The study also noted that half of the student body comes from only 8% of high schools, highlighting significant disparities in access to elite education.

Career paths reflect industry ties

According to a 2026 insertion survey, nearly 40% of ISAE-Supaero graduates enter the aerospace, defense, and related sectors, including companies like Airbus and Safran. This reflects the strong industry connections of the institution.
