Deschamps approached by Turkey

Two months after leaving the French national team, Didier Deschamps is reportedly being considered for a coaching role with Turkey, despite local opposition.

Deschamps’ past with France

Deschamps led France to victory in the 2018 World Cup and a final appearance in the 2022 World Cup. He previously turned down a coaching offer from Turkey last year, seeking a break before returning to coaching.

Turkey’s recent struggles

Under Vincenzo Montella, Turkey lost four straight matches in the Nations League, including games against Italy, Belgium, and France. This led to Montella’s dismissal and a search for a new coach.

Contenders for the job

According to NTV, four candidates are being considered: Didier Deschamps and three local coaches. Among them is Şenol Güneş, who led Turkey to a historic third-place finish at the 2002 World Cup.

Public reaction to Deschamps

Turkish fans are not enthusiastic about Deschamps’ potential return. Many prefer local coaches, citing concerns about language, cultural understanding, and the financial cost of hiring a foreign coach.

Deschamps’ conditions

Deschamps is willing to wait until next summer before coaching again, but might consider a return before year-end only for a prestigious role or an offer he cannot refuse financially.
