Tahiti crushed Vanuatu 18-1 in the opening match of the Oceanian Nations Beach Soccer Championship at Aorai tini hau on Saturday, establishing themselves as strong favorites in the tournament.

Papua New Guinea's absence affects tournament

The withdrawal of Papua New Guinea reduced the competition's intensity, as the tournament now features only four teams: Tahiti, the Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu.

Tahiti's strong lineup and strategy

Despite missing key defender Heimanu Taiarui, who was suspended, Tahiti fielded a strong team with Teave Teamotuaitau in goal and Raimana Li Fung Kuee as player-coach. The team quickly took control of the match against Vanuatu.

Tahiti's early dominance and scoring spree

Tahiti opened the scoring in the second minute with a goal from Ro’onui Tinirauarii, who scored again shortly after. The team quickly extended their lead, with Heirauarii Salem scoring in the fifth minute and the score reaching 5-0 within five minutes.

Vanuatu's brief resistance

Vanuatu managed to score once in the second third of the match, reducing the deficit to 10-1 with a goal from Batis Alick. However, Tahiti continued their strong performance and ultimately won 18-1.

Key players and team effort

Multiple players contributed to Tahiti's victory, including Ro’onui Tinirauarii with five goals, Roonui Lesca with a hat-trick, and several others. The team also showed depth by rotating players during the match.

Tahiti's cautious optimism

Heirauarii Salem, who scored seven goals and was named man of the match, expressed confidence in the team's performance but warned against overconfidence ahead of their match against the Solomon Islands. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus for the upcoming challenges.

Solomon Islands pose a tougher challenge

The Solomon Islands, who defeated New Caledonia earlier in the day, are expected to provide a stronger challenge for Tahiti. Their familiarity with Tahiti's style of play makes the upcoming match highly anticipated.
