A student was seriously injured in the arm when a deodorant spray can, thrown into a fire, exploded and struck him near the Koeberlé high school in Sélestat, Bas-Rhin. The incident was reported by a female student who was a close friend of the injured boy and witnessed the event. She described how the victim was covered with a French flag he had with him, which was stained with blood. "We were in front of the school," she said. "My classmates started a fire. Then, a friend of mine put a deodorant bottle into the flames. The aerosol can flew up and landed on the arm of one of my best friends. He had blood on his arm, there was a hole, we could see his flesh, his bone. It was shocking for all of us." Several students present filmed the scene with their mobile phones. The videos show a group of about several dozen young people gathered excitedly around a fire lit on the ground. Some of them took turns throwing objects into the flames, including aerosol cans that produce jets of flame when they explode. One of these cans was violently projected and hit a student in the arm above the elbow. The boy can be seen running while screaming. The impact caused a large wound above the elbow. "After that, students began to run away or have panic attacks at the sight of the blood," another student said. "The police tried to calm the situation by giving out cakes. She was great at that moment." The accident occurred around 10 o'clock in the morning in front of the gates of the Koeberlé high school in Sélestat. Unlike other schools in the academy, this one was not closed, and classes were held. According to several testimonies, it was in front of its gates that students from different high schools in the city had decided to gather. "It got too far," said other high school students encountered on site. They reported that there were one or two other injured individuals, one hit on the foot or knee, the other on the abdomen where he would have a hematoma. These reports are not confirmed by the firefighters or the sub-prefect of Sélestat, who only mention one young person hospitalized. "I think that's not normal," said a high school student present on site. "There are too many people who are not even enrolled with us who came to demonstrate, and that messed things up. We are here to demonstrate for our rights, but some people are using it to vandalize and cause trouble in Sélestat. It went out of control and it took an injured person for everything to stop." She said she would not participate in the high school mobilization if it continued next week. An investigation has been opened to determine the responsibilities in the accident. The injured high school student was taken care of in a hospital in Strasbourg.
