Cinema attendance rises in Tours

The city of Tours has four cinema multiplexes, with two located in the city center. The Studio cinema on Rue des Ursulines is reporting a 4 to 5% increase in entries for 2026, already reaching 240,000 people who have visited one of the seven screens in the art and essay complex.

Goal to surpass 2025 numbers

The Studio aims to reach 330,000 entries by the end of December, compared to 308,000 tickets sold in 2025. While the association has not yet returned to the 350,000 entries recorded before the pandemic, it is getting closer, aided by popular films such as L'Odyssée by Christopher Nolan and De la Comédie Française.

Diverse film selection boosts numbers

The cinema association claims to have screened no less than 600 different films throughout the year, twice as many as at Pathé or CGR. This number is also increasing, with a focus on "small" films with smaller budgets, for which the Studio is sometimes the first cinema in France to show them.

New initiatives to attract audiences

The Studio is introducing new strategies to boost attendance, including events such as the recent full houses for the premiere of Corset on a Sunday morning. For the 2026-2027 season, new features include a Sunday brunch at the Studio cafeteria and surprise film sessions where the title is not revealed until the event.

Inclusive and innovative programming

Other innovations include a free entry card for the teaching community and French film screenings subtitled in French for people with hearing difficulties. The Studio also hosts a half-dozen annual festivals and premieres, such as Moulin and Shawn le mouton. Technological upgrades are also in the works, including 4K laser projection in room 3 and improved air conditioning in the cafeteria area.
