Comedian Paul de Saint Sernin, who recently underwent heart surgery, shared a lighthearted tribute to the hospital staff in a video released on Wednesday. Filmed from his hospital bed, he described the procedure, which involved accessing his heart through the femoral artery in the thigh. While the operation was clearly a serious matter, he used the opportunity to make jokes, highlighting the teamwork of the medical professionals around him—ranging from the surgeon and anesthetist to four nurses. In a humorous tone, he recounted how the medical team lifted his shirt from the bottom and applied betadine, a disinfectant commonly used before surgery. He noted that five people were present during the procedure, and while he was aware of the thigh incision, he used the moment to make light of the situation. He joked that the team was "entering his heart," allowing him to talk about other things while they performed complex procedures. He described the surgery as "a job of a madman," acknowledging the long hours and dedication of the hospital staff, who he said put him at ease throughout the process. De Saint Sernin also reflected on the demanding schedules of hospital workers, noting that they must be "madmen" themselves, staying on duty even late into the night to care for patients. He humorously mentioned that for three weeks, he had been watching political debates on his TV, which had been discussing issues like the right to dress in public or cover one’s hair. He suggested that people should instead be thinking about how to better support hospital staff and consider donating to hospitals. Paul de Saint Sernin, who is celebrating his 35th birthday on September 10 with "a brand new heart," is currently on tour across France with his one-man show, which will continue until November 2027. A former sports journalist, he gained fame through his participation in the France 2 show Quelle époque! and was recently seen in the sixth season of the Prime Video series Lol qui rit sort at the end of 2025.
