Protest activity in Nantes

A number of thirty businesses were damaged in the central area of Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) on October 17, in the presence of overwhelmed law enforcement. Three more businesses were damaged on October 24, with more than 75 people placed under custody during the incidents.

Police strategy shift

In one week, the police changed their strategy, deploying armored vehicles and motorcyclists to manage the protests. The procession was kept as far away from the city center as possible to minimize disruption and ensure public safety.

Preparation for next phase

Analysis of the situation took place two days before what was expected to be the third major protest action, often referred to as "act III" in the sequence of demonstrations. This phase was anticipated to be more organized and potentially larger in scale.

Public and economic impact

The damage to businesses has raised concerns about the economic impact on the central area of Nantes, which is a key commercial and cultural hub in the region. Local authorities are assessing the long-term effects of these incidents on the community and commerce.

Community and law enforcement response

Local officials and business owners have called for a balance between protecting public safety and preserving the city's economic vitality. Law enforcement has emphasized their commitment to maintaining order while respecting the rights of protesters.
