The **Berlin Marathon 2026** will be held on Sunday, September 27. The elite races will begin at 2:45am Eastern Time (ET), 7:45am British Summer Time (BST), and 4:45pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). Runners will compete on Berlin’s well-known fast and flat course, which ends at the famous Brandenburg Gate. Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia is one of the top competitors. She previously won the Berlin Marathon in 2022 and set a mixed world record with a time of 2:11:53. That record was later broken by Ruth Chepng'etich. Earlier this year, Assefa improved her women-only world record to 2:15:41 at the **London Marathon**. The women’s race includes Rosemary Wanjiru of Kenya, the defending champion and 2022 runner-up. Other competitors are Alisa Vainio of Finland, the European champion, and Amane Beriso of Ethiopia, who is both a training partner and fellow countrywoman of Assefa. In the men’s race, Guye Adola of Ethiopia, the 2021 champion, is expected to compete. He recently won the Rotterdam Marathon with a time of 2:03:54. Other notable runners include Gabriel Geay from Tanzania, the 2023 Boston Marathon runner-up with a personal best of 2:03:00, and Shura Kitata of Ethiopia, whose personal best of 2:03:59 was set earlier this year in Seville. Kitata also won the **2020 London Marathon**. The **Berlin Marathon** will be broadcast for free on RTL in Germany and on the Olympic Channel in many European and other countries. Viewers outside these regions might need a virtual private network (VPN) to watch the event. In the United States, the live stream will be available on FloTrack, which requires a subscription. In the UK and Australia, the same service is available, with similar subscription costs. In Canada, the marathon will be shown on FloTrack with a monthly subscription starting at $29.99 or an annual rate of roughly $149.99. Since its first edition in 1974, the **Berlin Marathon** has been held 51 times, and the world record has been broken in Berlin thirteen times. Most recently, Eliud Kipchoge set a then-men's world record in 2022.
