Togolese government seeks industry input

The Togolese government is asking businesses and experts in the energy sector to review documents related to a 100 MW solar power project. This consultation is part of a larger plan to develop 400 MW of renewable energy in the country.

Nangbéto solar project details

The project, called Nangbéto, aims to generate 100 MW of electricity using solar panels. It is the first part of a national program to expand renewable energy production to 400 MW overall.

Documents under review

The government wants feedback on several key documents before starting a competition to select a company to build the project. These documents include contracts, agreements, and technical specifications.

Importance of the consultation

A government official warned that signing a contract at the wrong price could lead to long-term financial problems. The deadline for submitting comments is November 9, and various companies and investors are invited to participate.

RELP's role in the project

RELP, a Belgian organization focused on clean energy, is helping to ensure the project’s documents are clear and fair. The goal is to attract investors and lenders by making the process transparent and competitive.

Togo's current solar capacity

According to the African Solar Industry Association, the largest solar power plant currently operating in Togo is the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed plant, which has a capacity of 70 MW.
