An exhibition dedicated to Richard Peyzaret, who used the pseudonym F’murrr (1946–2018), is currently on display at the city hall of the 5th arrondissement of Paris, located on the Place des Grands-Hommes, from September 17 to October 9. The exhibition, titled The Genius of the Page, showcases approximately 200 original works, including pages, sketches, notebooks, and drawings from private collections. These are supported by the F’murrr Future Foundation, and the event is part of the Formula Bula festival, which is taking place this week. F’murrr, known for his distinctive signature with three "r"s, was inspired by the Cat Murr from E. T. A. Hoffmann’s works. Despite a proofreader who initially removed an "r" from his signature, F’murrr maintained the spelling in all his published works. However, the organizers of the exhibition have corrected the spelling for this display. F’murrr was a significant figure in the 1970s Pilote magazine, a period of great creativity in French comics. The magazine, which featured works by notable personalities such as Claire Bretécher, Gotlib, Mœbius, Druillet, Alexis, Fred, Mandryka, Reiser, and many others, became a field of experimentation. F’murrr’s work, including The Genius of the Alpine Pastures, showcases a contemplative universe filled with absurd and obscure elements, often expressed through poetic and graphical means. The exhibition also highlights F’murrr’s illustrations, poster art, and more "political" works, such as Jehanne d'Arque, where the "Maid of Orléans" became an emblematic figure of the National Front, and The State's Chariot Slides on the War Path, set in Afghanistan during the Soviet Union era. The F’murrr Future Foundation, led by Barbara Pescarel and Élisabeth Walter, is working to promote and preserve F’murrr’s legacy. The exhibition includes events such as a lecture by Thérèse Willer on September 24 and a panel discussion on September 25, addressing the challenges of preserving an artist's work after their death. Guided tours of the exhibition are available on September 29 and October 3, with additional events taking place during the Formula Bula festival, which runs from September 25 to 27. The festival will focus on contemporary Finnish comics and other authors.
