Youth engage in heritage projects in Bastia

Twelve junior high and high school students from the Bastia region are participating in the 18th edition of the Young Junior High and High School Workshops. This event, organized by the municipality, takes place during school holidays in April and October and focuses on raising awareness about the preservation and transmission of local heritage.

Past projects highlight community efforts

Marie Stromboni, a municipal councillor, mentioned previous projects such as the piazzetta of Rue Carbuccia, the Garden of the Annunciation, and the Place d'Armes. These projects aim to diversify the initiatives and bring life to different neighborhoods of the city of Bastia.

This year's event focuses on Cardo

The 18th edition brings young people together in Cardo. Over five days, they participate in the beautification and greening of the church square. The program includes not only manual work but also sports activities, cultural discoveries, and meetings around the Corsican language.

Cultural and linguistic immersion

This year’s event includes cultural activities in linguistic immersion with actors who are fully Corsican-speaking. The goal is to promote the Corsican language among high school and junior high students from across the Bastia region. Participants can work in the morning and visit the village in the afternoon, learning a song as part of the experience.

Event fosters community and learning

For the city hall, the event offers added value by providing opportunities for students to meet and share around the language, songs, traditions, and history of the village. It allows young people to get involved in their city, local life, and build relationships with others not necessarily from their school.

Event presentation and regional news

The presentation of the work is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. Other news from the region includes the titles of the French Minivert Championship awarded in Porto-Vecchio, Asian hornet specialists expected to reinforce Corsica, a successful French surfcasting championship in Corsica with two island duos qualified for the 2027 World Championships, and new dimensions in rehabilitation at the Bonifacio hospital. Football National 2: Corte may nourish regrets.
