New electric 2CV in development

Stellantis has confirmed it will produce an electric version of the classic Citroën 2CV in Italy, as part of its E-Car program targeting the small city car market. The plan was first reported by Journal de l'Automobile in June 2026 and officially announced at the 2026 Paris Motor Show by Emanuele Cappellano, director of the extended Europe region.

Production location and plans

Production will start at the Pomogliano d'Arco site near Naples, though other plants may also be involved. The E-Car program includes three models, with specific launch dates to be announced at a later date.

E-Car program goals

The E-Car initiative aims to achieve three main goals: Economic, with a targeted price of around 15,000 euros; Ecological, using electric propulsion; and European, with all design, development, and production based in Europe. Stellantis says it has mastered the cost structure of the platform and expects to achieve satisfactory margins at this price level.

Platform and business model

The electric 2CV will use the platform of the Leapmotor T03. Antonio Filosa, general director of the group, stated that the company has developed a viable business model without relying on subsidies or regulatory changes. While potential supercredits or favorable arrangements for small electric vehicles could help, they are not required for the project's profitability.
