The French government has announced that it will extend and renew a 100-euro financial aid program for workers known as "grand rouleurs" to help citizens cope with rising fuel prices. Initially set to end on September 30, the program will now run through October, November, and December 2026. The number of people who could benefit from this aid has increased significantly, from 3 million to 5.5 million. Maud Bregeon, the government spokesperson and deputy minister for Energy, said the aid "will represent the equivalent of 40 cents per liter of fuel for two months on average." The eligibility criteria for the aid have also been broadened. Previously, applicants had to be part of a household with a reference tax income per share for 2024 of no more than 16,880 euros. Starting in October, the income limits will be higher: 2,035 euros net for a single person, 4,070 euros net for a couple, and 6,100 euros net for a couple with two children. Other eligibility conditions remain unchanged. To qualify, individuals must be fiscally domiciled in France, at least sixteen years old by December 31, 2024, and either employed or self-employed. They must use their personal vehicle—either a thermal or plug-in hybrid—for professional purposes and travel at least 15 kilometers between home and work or 8,000 kilometers per year for their job. Those who are liable for the real estate wealth tax (IFI) for the year 2024 are not eligible for this aid. The fuel aid will be automatically sent to the 1.2 million French citizens who were already recipients of the 100-euro aid covering April to September 2026, according to a government press release. Other eligible individuals will need to apply starting in October through the tax authority's website. They will have to fill out a form in their personal account, providing personal details, their tax number, vehicle registration number, and vehicle registration certificate number. They must also confirm that they meet the vehicle use conditions in terms of the distances they travel. The aid will be paid approximately 10 days after the application is approved, directly into the bank account the tax administration has on file for income tax. Discussions are currently underway about adapting the aid to better suit the needs of overseas departments.
