Logitech, a well-known maker of computer peripherals, has introduced a new $99 device called the MX Keypad, designed to help programmers and coders work more efficiently. This compact accessory features nine customizable full-color LCD keys that can be programmed to launch commands, run macros, or access AI tools. Its small size—about the same width as a standard Logitech mouse and weighing just 96 grams—makes it easy to place next to a keyboard without taking up much desk space. The MX Keypad was developed in partnership with GitHub, a popular platform for software development and version control. It is intended to function as a control center, reducing the need to switch between multiple applications. Each of the nine keys can be set up to control one or more apps and tools, such as running complex commands or accessing AI-powered coding assistants. At launch, it will integrate seamlessly with GitHub, VS Code (a popular code editor), and GitHub Copilot (an AI tool that helps write code). To expand its functionality, Logitech has provided developers with the Logi Actions SDK, a software development kit that allows them to create and share their own integrations. Community-built plugins for tools like Claude Code and OpenAI Codex are already available, and additional plugins for GitHub Copilot and Claude Code have been developed and tested by developers. The MX Keypad connects to a computer via USB-C and is compatible with macOS 13 or later, or Windows 10 or later. Sustainability is also a focus of the MX Keypad. It is made with certified post-consumer recycled plastic, with 64% of the graphite components and 49% of the pale gray models coming from recycled materials. According to Anatoliy Polyanker, VP and General Manager at Logitech, the MX Keypad addresses the growing need for developers to manage an increasing number of AI tools efficiently. "MX Keypad puts a physical control center at your fingertips, allowing you to orchestrate your AI workflows faster and more intuitively," he said. The MX Keypad serves as a more affordable and streamlined alternative to Logitech’s existing MX Creative Console, which offers similar LCD keypad functionality but includes a separate dialpad for adjusting settings and navigating creative applications. The MX Creative Console costs $199.99, making the new MX Keypad a more budget-friendly option for developers and coders looking to enhance their workflow.
