Khalid El Wardi, a former key figure at Médiation Tourisme et Voyage (MTV), has launched a new mediation service called Eurotravel Médiation, designed to help resolve conflicts between tourism professionals and travelers. El Wardi was involved in founding MTV in 2011 but left the company in May 2025. After leaving, he noticed gaps in the existing mediation system and decided to create Eurotravel Médiation, which officially began operations in September 2026. The service aims to improve upon the current system by reducing the time and cost of dispute resolution. Eurotravel Médiation charges 60 euros per case, not including taxes, which is much lower than the typical fees in the industry. The company is also building a digital platform that uses artificial intelligence to help with tasks like organizing case files and compiling documents. This technology will allow users to follow the progress of their cases in real time, making the process more transparent and efficient. El Wardi stressed that while AI will handle routine tasks, all final decisions will be made by human mediators. As the demand for mediation services grows, he plans to expand his team by hiring more lawyers. He pointed out that having multiple mediators in the tourism sector is a common practice in several European countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, and Spain, where similar mediation structures already exist. According to Jean-Pierre Mas, MTV handled 16,558 cases in 2025, and this number is expected to more than double in the coming year due to a new law requiring mediation attempts in air travel disputes. Specifically, the number of air travel-related cases is projected to increase from 12,000 in 2025 to over 30,000 in 2026. Eurotravel Médiation aims to be selective in its partnerships, ensuring that the mediation process remains both fast and of high quality.
