Tree falls disrupt RER D service

A tree from the Vives-Eaux estate in Dammarie-lès-Lys, Seine-et-Marne, fell onto the RER D tracks on October 25, causing a six-hour disruption between Corbeil-Essonnes and Melun. This incident is the second this year involving trees from the same property falling on railway tracks.

SNCF files formal complaint

SNCF Réseau, the organization responsible for maintaining SNCF infrastructure, has filed a formal complaint against the property owner after failed attempts to resolve the issue through dialogue. The company is also considering legal action against the owner.

Owner claims no knowledge of complaint

The property owner, who is the owner of the famous "Star Academy" castle, claims to be unaware of the recent incident or the complaint. He stated that he had already arranged for a tree pruner to address the situation after a similar event in January.

Legal obligation to maintain vegetation

French law requires property owners to maintain vegetation near SNCF easements. Article L.2231 of the transport code mandates that trees and branches be regularly trimmed to prevent them from encroaching on railway tracks and infrastructure.

Consequences of non-compliance

Failure to comply with these regulations can result in serious consequences, including criminal charges, fines, imprisonment, and financial liability for any damage caused. SNCF Réseau also offers assistance to property owners in emergency situations involving trees near the tracks.
