Lenovo has launched the IdeaPad Slim 5x with the model number 15Q8Y11 83RL0018FR, a new laptop powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus chip. This is an entry-level processor from Qualcomm's latest generation, designed for efficiency and performance in lightweight computing tasks. The device features a 15.3-inch OLED WQXGA screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a high refresh rate of 165 Hz, making it suitable for smooth visual experiences. It has 16 GB of soldered RAM, meaning the memory cannot be upgraded, and is both lightweight and thin, weighing 1.41 kg and measuring 15.6 millimeters in thickness. The laptop includes an HDMI 2.1 port, two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports (supporting up to 10 Gb/s but not Thunderbolt or USB4), a microSD card reader, and a standard audio jack. The IdeaPad Slim 5x is currently available in a 512 GB version at Carrefour for 999.99 euros, a 200 euro discount from its original price of 1199.99 euros. The device uses the Snapdragon X2 Plus chip in its 6-core version (X2P-42-100), which offers improved performance over the previous generation Snapdragon X Plus. It provides up to 35% more performance in single-core tasks, 10% in multi-core tasks, and up to 39% better graphics performance compared to the 2024 model. This laptop is primarily intended for office use, such as word processing, spreadsheet work, and web browsing. It can also handle light creative tasks, like photo or video editing, as long as the graphics settings are adjusted and the software is compatible with Windows on ARM. However, it is not suitable for high-end gaming, as it cannot run demanding AAA titles. The integrated Adreno X2-45 graphics chip can manage less demanding games and applications. The laptop is equipped with a 54.7 Wh battery, which is slightly lower than what is typical for a 15-inch device. According to Consumer Reports, the battery lasts approximately 19 hours for web browsing and 15.5 hours for 4K video playback on the LCD screen version. However, the OLED screen may reduce these figures slightly. The laptop does not come with a charger, so users will need a 65-watt USB-C charger for optimal performance. With the current promotion at Carrefour, the IdeaPad Slim 5x has entered the market of laptops priced under 1000 euros.
