An inquest has been opened into the death of James Judge, a 55-year-old man from Horbury, Wakefield, who died from complications of a dog bite on his leg. The incident occurred on a footpath near the old train line off Blacker Lane in Wakefield on August 15. James Judge was taken to Leeds General Infirmary after the attack, where he later died. His mother identified his body. A post-mortem examination indicated that the cause of death was complications from a wound on his right leg caused by the dog bite. Lee Ellis, a 55-year-old man from Calder Grove in Wakefield, has been charged with manslaughter and being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, which caused injury resulting in death. The inquest into Mr. Judge's death was opened and adjourned on Monday. Acting senior coroner Oliver Longstaff stated that the inquest would be paused until the outcome of the criminal proceedings is known. He noted that it is unclear whether the inquest will need to be resumed after those proceedings conclude. James Judge was unmarried and had lived in Horbury, Wakefield, at the time of his death. During the inquest, details about the incident were discussed, including the fact that it reportedly began with an argument over a "right of way." This refers to a legal term describing who has the legal right to use a particular path or road. Lee Ellis is scheduled to appear at Leeds Crown Court on September 26. His solicitor mentioned during his first appearance at Bradford Magistrates Court that the incident was linked to a dispute over a right of way. The legal process will determine whether Ellis is found guilty of the charges against him, and the inquest will be revisited accordingly.
