A new agreement between Renault and Geely, officially announced on September 15, 2026, strengthens their collaboration in Latin America. This partnership includes an additional investment of 319 million euros, raising the total investment for the period 2025–2027 to 899 million euros. The increased funding is intended to adapt Renault’s industrial tools to support the production of a future electric vehicle. This move aligns with the growing demand for electric vehicles in the region, especially in Brazil, where fully electric cars now hold a 7.6 percent market share as of the beginning of 2026. The Renault plant in Curitiba, Brazil, is undergoing modernization to integrate Geely’s GEA (Global Intelligent Electric Architecture) platform. This platform is designed to support the development and production of electric vehicles, offering a flexible and scalable solution for different markets. The plant is preparing for the production of the Geely EX2, a fully electric hatchback city car, which is set to begin in December 2026. This follows the successful launch of the Geely EX5 EM-i, a hybrid SUV, which is already being produced locally. A new Renault vehicle, designed using the GEA electric platform, is expected to launch in early 2027. This marks the first major step in Renault’s strategic plan called FutuREady, which aims to accelerate the company’s shift toward electric vehicles in Latin America. By leveraging Geely’s existing architecture, Renault can reduce development time and costs while tailoring the vehicle to the specific needs of the local market. This approach allows Renault to avoid starting from scratch in its electric vehicle strategy in Brazil. François Provost, general director of Renault Group, and Fabrice Cambolive, general director of the Renault brand, emphasized that the partnership represents a "win-win" situation. It enables Renault to expand its electric vehicle offerings more efficiently, while Geely benefits from Renault’s brand recognition and manufacturing expertise in the region. The collaboration highlights a growing trend in the automotive industry, where partnerships are becoming key to navigating the transition to electric mobility.
