Rapporteurs elected for inquiry commission

The three rapporteurs of the inquiry commission on the violence committed at the margins of the October 17 demonstrations were elected on Wednesday, October 21. They are Pouria Amirshahi (Ecologist and Social), Agnès Firmin Le Bodo (Horizons), and Roger Vicot (Socialists).

Commission begins its work

The inquiry commission on the violence and looting committed at the margins of the October 17 demonstrations is now in motion. The deputies of the commission, which will be led by the president of the committee on laws, Vincent Caure (Together for the Republic), carried out on Wednesday the strategic distribution of the rapporteur positions during a closed-door meeting.

Political diversity ensured

The elected officials had previously agreed that there should be three in order to respect the diversity of political forces represented in the National Assembly. Ultimately, due to the lack of agreement on the left on a common candidate despite the holding of negotiations, three of its representatives ran for the position, two of whom were elected on Wednesday: Pouria Amirshahi (Ecologist and Social) and Roger Vicot (Socialists).

Competitive selection process

The former health minister, Agnès Firmin Le Bodo (Horizons), was also designated to complete the trio. No fewer than three rounds were necessary to determine the candidates, among whom were Thomas Portes (France Insoumise) and Michaël Taverne (National Rally). The LFI deputy withdrew during the third round in order to favor Pouria Amirshahi against Michaël Taverne, according to LCP information.

Significant responsibilities ahead

The choice is far from trivial, since these three deputies will be tasked with drafting the conclusions of the inquiry commission, which is charged with examining the preparation of last Saturday's mobilizations, the law enforcement measures, the impact of social media, and the adequacy of the criminal response. The inquiry commission can now begin its work.
