Partizan Belgrade has started the 2023-2024 season strongly, remaining undefeated in four official matches. The team, coached by Spanish trainer Joan Pennaroya, began its ABA League campaign on Monday, October 5, with a decisive 83-59 victory over Mega. This win follows three successful games in the EuroLeague, where they defeated teams such as Milan, Paris, and Bayern Munich, putting them at the top of the league in terms of wins. In the match against Mega, French players Joffrey Lauvergne and Bandja Sy were standout performers. Lauvergne recorded 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal, earning an evaluation of 15 and a plus-minus of +13 in 22 minutes. Sy added 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block, with an evaluation of 4 in 21 minutes. Their contributions were key to the team's performance. The ABA League season for Partizan began under unusual circumstances, as all matches from the first day were postponed. The game took place in an almost empty Pionir arena, where Partizan dominated early, leading 15-2 in the second quarter (39-27). They maintained their lead throughout the second half, allowing only 26 points to Mega. Ethan Thompson was a major contributor, scoring 21 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and recording 2 blocks and 1 assist in 29 minutes. Other notable performances came from Kyle Allman and Kevarrius Hayes, both former players of Paris Basketball. Allman added 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Hayes contributed 6 points and 8 rebounds. The team's depth and versatility were evident, and the Spanish coach praised the effort, saying, "It was a strange match because there were no fans. Mega is a young team with many talented players, so it was important for us to play with a lot of energy and stay focused. We managed to control the match with different players on the court, so it's a good victory for us." Looking ahead, Partizan Belgrade will aim to keep their unbeaten streak in the EuroLeague when they face Real Madrid on Thursday, October 8. Real Madrid has struggled in European competitions so far, having lost all three of their matches. The game is expected to be a crucial test for Partizan's continued success in the league.
