Five-time Olympic judo champion Teddy Riner has re-committed to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) until 2028, the club announced. In a statement, PSG said, "Paris Saint-Germain is proud to announce the return of Teddy Riner." The club emphasized that Riner's return reflects a mutual ambition to face new challenges, both on the tatamis — the traditional mat used in judo — and in other areas of life. Riner had previously left PSG at the start of his career but returned in 2017 when the club was reviving its judo program. His most recent appearance with the club was at the 2024 Judo Champions League. Since then, he had been without a contract. PSG noted that Riner's new commitment until 2028 reaffirms the shared goal of pursuing major international competitions. As a 37-year-old judoka from Guadeloupe, Riner will remain connected to PSG until the Los Angeles Olympics, which he views as the pinnacle of his career. "I am very happy and honored to rejoin Paris Saint-Germain and to write yet another new page of my adventure here," Riner said. He added that he has the opportunity to compete under ideal conditions to continue pursuing his ambitions and titles in the coming years. Despite his enthusiasm, Riner is still recovering from a shoulder injury. He had planned to compete in the Judo World Championships next month in Azerbaijan but had to withdraw due to his condition. This setback highlights the ongoing challenges he faces as he prepares for future competitions, including the Olympics.
