Everton have secured a season-long loan deal for Jack Grealish from Manchester City, marking his return to the club where he previously spent the 2025-26 season. Grealish, who joined City from Aston Villa for £100 million in August 2021, had made 20 appearances for Everton before suffering a season-ending foot injury in January. Now 30, Grealish has chosen to reunite with manager David Moyes, despite being linked with a potential return to his boyhood club, Aston Villa. During his previous loan spell, Grealish scored twice and provided six assists in 20 games. He made a comeback from injury during Manchester City's Community Shield match against Arsenal on 16 August and also featured in City's opening Premier League game of the 2026-27 season, which saw them defeat Bournemouth 2-1 under new manager Enzo Maresca. Everton had also aimed to sign Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United on transfer deadline day, but he has decided to remain at Old Trafford. Zirkzee became a target after Beto, a forward from Guinea-Bissau, moved permanently to Fiorentina in Serie A. The Toffees had also considered Tammy Abraham, but he chose to stay at Aston Villa. Another potential signing was Monaco's Folarin Balogun, with a £40 million deal agreed between the clubs, though a medical issue delayed the transfer. Everton is still hopeful of securing the 25-year-old USA international before the 23:00 BST deadline. In addition to Grealish, Everton has signed Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon in a £3 million deal. The 29-year-old, who has earned five caps for England, can play as a full-back or in midfield. Meanwhile, Scotland right-back Nathan Patterson has completed a permanent move to Torino in Serie A. Patterson, 24, joined Everton from Rangers in January 2022 and made 68 appearances across all competitions before his departure.
