Arlo launches new motorized security camera

Arlo, an American company known for connected security cameras, has introduced its first motorized camera in the Essential product line, the Arlo Essential 3 2K PTZ Interior. This new model adds pan, tilt, and zoom capabilities to Arlo’s lineup, allowing the camera to follow movements and recognize people using artificial intelligence.

Pricing and design details

The camera is priced at 99.99 euros, nearly double the cost of similar motorized cameras from Chinese competitors. It has a compact white plastic body with a black front, measuring 72 mm in diameter and 124.58 mm in height. The device includes a 360° rotating base and a mechanical system that allows the camera to tilt from +90° to -90°.

Technical specifications

The camera features a 2K video sensor with a 130° field of view and a digital zoom of x12, along with infrared night vision. An LED status light is integrated into the optical block, and the audio components—microphone and speaker—are located at the base. The camera is designed for indoor use, though it can be used outdoors if adequately protected from the weather.

Installation and connectivity

The camera can be placed on a flat surface or mounted on a wall using a supplied kit. However, the included 2-meter power cable may be too short for wall installations. The Arlo application allows users to pair the camera, access cloud storage, and use subscription-based features like object recognition, facial recognition, and motion tracking.

Performance and features

The camera’s 3 MP sensor provides clear daytime images with natural color representation, though digital zoom beyond x4 results in pixelation. Motion detection works up to 7 meters during the day and 5 to 6 meters at night. Facial recognition is functional both day and night but is limited to a single camera. The PTZ movement is smooth and precise, though it struggles with fast-moving targets.

Subscription and availability

To access intelligent detection and cloud recording features, users must subscribe to Arlo Secure, which starts at 7.99 euros per month for a single camera. The Arlo Essential 3 2K PTZ Interior is available in white on the Arlo website at 99.99 euros per unit or 149.99 euros for a pack of two cameras.
